Louisiana is a largely rural southern state with a heritage unlike any other in America. Once a French community, many Louisiana residents still speak French or various dialects derived from the original language, such as Creole French. New Orleans is the most heavily populated city in Louisiana.
Licensed nurses will find plenty of job opportunities throughout the state of Louisiana, particularly in New Orleans, Lafayette and Shreveport. The Rapides Healthcare System and Province Healthcare System are two of the largest employers of nurses, both operating multiple hospitals throughout the state. Also, the Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport has many open positions for medical professionals. Hospitals aren't the only places for nurses to work in this state, however. From schools to rural clinics, Louisiana needs nurses for a variety of settings.
