Although Carson City is Nevada's capital, this state is known for its largest city, Las Vegas. This is where a nurse will find plentiful employment opportunities as well, as Las Vegas hosts almost twenty major hospitals, surgery and trauma centers. In addition, Reno is a popular tourist attraction, and home to the University of Nevada Health Sciences System.
The UN Health Sciences System includes 200 programs spread throughout the eight institutions within the NSHE, including schools of medicine, dental medicine, public health, allied health, health and human sciences, and nursing. These programs provide research and employment opportunities for nurses to become involved with education and community.
The University of Nevada recently addressed the shortage of nurse educators in this state. Additionally, Nevada is one of only a few states with no personal income tax, which many workers consider a benefit.
