Nursing Schools in New Hampshire
New Hampshire boasts the highest per capita population of nurses in the USA, yet it will find itself seriously short of nurses by 2020. By one estimate, New Hampshire needs 672 new nurses annually until 2014 just to fill vacant positions.
Concord is New Hampshire's capital city, and Manchester is its largest city. However, the latter metropolis boasts fewer medical care facilities than Lebanon, a "New England City and Town Area." Lebanon is home to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Medical School, together comprising the largest medical facility between Boston, Massachusetts and Burlington, Vermont.
The medical center supplies ongoing education for its nurses, including a nurse-residency program and a ten-month, two-part emergency department nursing transition training program. The nursing program at this facility achieved Magnet status in 2003. While a nurse can find opportunities for work throughout this state, Dartmouth the most coveted place for a nurse to work in New Hampshire.
