New Jersey was one of among eleven states that recently banned mandatory overtime for nurses. But, because of the nursing shortage, mandatory overtime is sometimes necessary in this state as in any other state.
The Jersey City Medical Center, located in Jersey City on the Hudson River across from Manhattan, serves as a major teaching affiliate of New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Another recent addition to the Jersey City health care system is the current development of the Grand Jersey project, which includes a 420-bed state-of-the-art medical facility on a thirteen-acre site along the waterfront.
New Jersey boasts many hospitals, medical networks, and specialized care centers, and many are based in Trenton, the capital city, and Newark, the state's largest city. However, Jersey City's proximity to New York makes this area an ideal location for nurses to find work in up-to-date medical institutions.
