Oklahoma ranks below the national average in nurses per capita, but was over the national average in hospital beds per 100,000 people. Yet the state's largest hospital, the OU Medical Center located in the capital of Oklahoma City, is the only hospital in the state with a Level I trauma designation. This hospital is located on the grounds of the largest concentration of medical research facilities in the state at the Oklahoma Health Center.
Additionally, the Regional Medical Center of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa offers cancer treatments to the entire southwestern U.S. Oklahoma State University Medical Center at Tulsa is ranked as the largest osteopathic teaching facility in the nation and as the largest facility in the field of neuroscience. Nurses can also seek opportunities in smaller towns than Oklahoma City and Tulsa, in regional hospitals and other health care facilities located throughout this state.
