Nursing Schools in South Carolina

The average age of the current RN population in South Carolina is over 50, with many of those nurses projected to retire in the coming few years. In the northern part of the state, less than one percent holds a doctoral degree, four percent have a master's degree, and only twenty-two percent have a baccalaureate degree. Additionally, while there are sufficient numbers of nursing programs in South Carolina, they were unable to produce sufficient nursing graduates to meet the growing demand. The projected demand for nurses in this state in 2020 will exceed the projected supply by almost 13,000.

Nurses who seek employment in South Carolina can look to the largest city and capital, Columbia; however, medical facilities also abound in Charleston, Greenville, and Spartanburg. The largest medical health system is Trident, located in Charleston, with medical centers located throughout the state.
