Amielle Ann Punongbayan of the Global Healthcare Resources recently stated that Texas has the biggest demand for nurses in the U.S. Seton Healthcare Network, located in Austin, needed to hire 600 nurses this year at its hospitals in Central Texas and has filled half of those positions. Despite these claims, professional registered nursing is the largest health care profession in this state, according to the Texas Nursing Association. Nearly 148,000 RNs reside in Texas and 114,000, or 77 percent, are employed in nursing practice. Of that number, TNA said 61 percent are employed at hospitals, while slightly less than two percent holds an educational position.
Nurses who seek employment in Texas can look to this state's capital, Austin; but, other major medical systems and facilities also exist in San Antonio, the largest city of Houston, and the largest metro area in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
